Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems Europe – a subsidiary of its principal, Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems (MHPS) – has launched Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems Africa (MHPSA) in South Africa. The South African business of Hitachi Power Africa (HPA), primarily the Medupi and Kusile power station projects, has been transferred to MHPSA.
This is as a consequence of the conclusion of an agreement – first details of which were announced in November 2012 – between Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Limited (MHI) and Hitachi Limited (Hitachi) –– to integrate and jointly manage their respective businesses in the area of thermal power generation systems globally.
MHPSA Chief Executive Officer for South African operations, Stephen Moore said, “MHPSA has acquired HPA’s management and employees and will conduct its business from the premises previously occupied by HPA. Consequently, business continuity will be maintained and the transition will be seamless.”
Moore added, “The Mitsubishi and Hitachi merger will create a new group of companies endowed with a high level of technical competence and a wide product range creating new and exciting business opportunities in Africa.”
“The formation of this merger is good news for all concerned; the strength of MHPS will certainly benefit the delivery of the Medupi and Kusile power station projects”, concluded Moore.
Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems will pursue synergy by the integration of the two companies’ power generation systems operations, each with long histories and strong traditions, and will accelerate its global expansion, while at the same time building an efficient and stable business operation base.
